IndoJax Surf Charities – Homes of Hope Update

Good afternoon blog followers,

I hope that you’re all having a great week! We’ve been very busy already this month, and are looking forward to carrying that momentum through the spring (can anyone else believe there’s only ~1 month left until the NC Azalea Festival!?!?!).

Today on our blog, we are excited to be able to bring you the latest news from one of our charity partners, IndoJax(r) Surf Charities! Our Director of Sales, Pierrette Cortner, forwarded this to me to share with you all today:

On March 30, local group Indo Jax Surf Charities will depart for its third annual trip to Kochi, India where they will be offering a surfing camp for girls who live at a Homes of Hope-affiliated orphanage. The orphanage houses between 60 and 100 girls.

The camp, which is now held annually, coincides with the girls’ vacation period from school, a time during which many of the girls have nowhere else to go.

Before coming to the HOH orphanage, many of the children were purposely maimed in order to receive more money while begging, and 80 percent of the girls have been sexually abused, explained Paul Wilkes, founder of Homes of Hope.

The goal of the group’s surfing camp, according to Indo Jax’s press release, is to bring the liberation of surfing to children who have never encountered such unadulterated freedoms.

“We try and bring something that these girls haven’t had most of their lives—a sense of joy and something to look forward to,” said Jack Viorel, president of Indo Jax Surf Charities. “Making a third trip sends the message that we’re not abandoning these kids. It means they can count on us.”

Several Wilmington businesses are donating a portion of their proceeds to Indo Jax or are holding events in March to support its mission.

Paddle for India is a paddleboard event to be held on Saturday March 17 in support of Indo Jax and HOH. Entry fee is $20. For details, visit the Paddle for India Facebook page or call (910) 679-4474.

On Thursday, March 22 there will be musical and dance performances at Thalian Hall by local performers. Tickets are $15.

Wilmington Wine (605 Castle Street) will hold an evening wine tasting on Sunday, March 25th. A portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated to Indo Jax.

Cape Fear Community Accupuncture will donate 10 percent of its sales until March 15th. Downtown Darlings will donate 20 percent of sales made between March 4 and March 10, and The Melting Pot of Mayfaire will donate a portion of guest receipts on March 10.

For more information please contact Jack Viorel at (910) 274-3565 or e-mail jack@indojaxsurfschool.com.”

We also wanted to remind you that anyone who makes a reservation at our hotel using this link – CLICK HERE – will be helping IndoJax(r) Surf Charities. A portion of each reservation received through that link will be donated back to IndoJax(r) by the Holiday Inn Express(r) & Suites Wilmington – University Center.

Please let us know if you have any questions about how to use the link or how to support IndoJax(r) on their mission to travel to India! We are very honored to be providing donations to this group!

Regards,

Jessica
